A salve – also called a balm, is a combination of herb infused oil and beeswax. Beeswax is melted with the oil and then when it cools it becomes solid or semi-solid. It can also have other things added to it such as essential oils, nut & fruit butters, or vitamin E. Since beeswax is a preservative and there is no water in a salve, it has a long, stable shelf life.
